Benchmarking & Feedback
Benchmarking begins with the establishment of actual building performance information. Through a continuum of strategies this "benchmark" data can then be used for comparing measured performance of a building to peer group buildings or other target values. NBI is working with a wide range of organizations to make feedback more available and useful. Read More

Analysis: Interpreting the Information
Useful feedback requires the right data and key performance indicators. Overwhelming lists of detail can lead to inaction as readily as can the absence of information. NBI is working on a number of projects to identify the most important performance indicators and views for each audience, with the goal of progressing from high level benchmarking to more specific investigative diagnostic feedback.

Defining & Acquiring Data
NBI's work developing key performance indicators and reporting tools is also informing the basic description of the core data to gather. We have also tested and reported on automatic data acquisition methods (smart metering) to simplify the process of acquiring that data and are beginning a new project to develop a best practices guideline on energy information systems.
