NBI taps Charles Eley as a Fellow

New Buildings Institute (NBI) is pleased to announce that Charles Eley, longtime energy efficiency advocate and consultant, has been named an NBI Fellow. NBI Fellowship recognizes luminary energy efficiency professionals who have made a significant contribution to society through their leadership, dedication and groundbreaking work. Fellows serve as ambassadors, representing and supporting NBI’s mission and collaborating with NBI partners to significantly improve the energy efficiency of commercial buildings through research, policy development and creation of tools and solutions that enable design teams to create high performance buildings. This achievement recognizes Mr. Eley’s 40-year career. An architect and mechanical engineer with more than 35 years’ experience in energy efficient and sustainable design, he has made significant contributions to California energy standards, ASHRAE Standard 90.1, and energy codes in Hong Kong, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and Australia. In addition to his energy codes and policy work, Mr. Eley has developed a number of important publications including the Advanced Lighting Guidelines, the Lighting Fundamentals Handbook, as well as numerous other technical manuals on energy efficiency and code compliance.

We are delighted to honor Charles, one of our industry’s most respected professionals whose achievements are truly outstanding and inspiring. Charles’ career has been dedicated to not only making buildings more energy efficient, but also to uncovering new opportunities for advances in energy efficiency through research, practitioner tools and best practices in energy codes and developing standards that help the industry achieve higher energy performance. Mr. Eley is the second person to be designated an NBI Fellow, joining R.K. Stewart who was named in 2012.
