Why heat-pump water heaters could soon take off

Published by Canary Media: On April 30, the Biden administration finalized efficiency standards — the wonky rules that govern appliances sold in the U.S. — that will supercharge sales of heat-pump water heaters.

“This rule will ensure that heat-pump water heaters are going to be the de facto electric water heater in five years,” said Joseph Wachunas, senior project manager at the nonprofit New Buildings Institute. “It’s really monumental.”
