Getting to Zero—Taking Action on Carbon

Published in Laboratory Equipment: Architecture 2030 estimates an addition of 2.5 trillion square feet of buildings to the planet by 2060, equivalent to building another New York City every 34 days—heightening the sense of urgency for designers to focus on net-zero building energy performance. As of early 2018, research by the New Buildings Institute tracked close to 500 verified and emerging net-zero energy buildings, a 700 percent increase since 2012. The fact that this growth is being led by education buildings is great news for laboratory design.
