Electrifying “Weird” Loads

In this webinar we discuss solutions for buildings and property needs that could be challenging to electrify—such as pools and other equipment—because of their high need for power.

Buildings can use a lot of energy, both inside and out. Heating pools and mowing lawns are currently natural gas-dominated loads, and they’re not a minor source of emissions. Heating an uncovered pool for just one month in California during a shoulder season produces more emissions than driving a gasoline-powered car for a year (11,500 miles). Gas lawn mowers are big energy users too, in addition to being noisy and polluting. According to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, one gas lawn mower can emit as many volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and carbon monoxide (CO) as 11 new gas cars. Luckily, efficient, all-electric options exist for both building-adjacent loads. Watch this on-demand to learn more about how these “weird” loads are being decarbonized with newer, cleaner technologies.
