Getting Data Centers Right: A Framework for Action

Date:

September 22, 2026

Time:

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm America/Los_Angeles

Policymakers, utilities, and communities are being pressured to evaluate and approve data center development projects without a consistent, credible way to assess the impacts of data centers on the electric grid, climate goals, economic development, or local communities. NBI’s forthcoming technical report, Measuring What Matters: A New Framework for Data Center Performance, presents a proposed new Data Center Energy Performance Evaluation Framework (DC-EPEF). The report summarizes current data center standards and metrics, identifies key gaps and opportunities, and outlines ways to leverage pre-existing regulations, incentives, and policy strategies to advance technologies that strengthen the grid and protect the environment.

Join NBI’s upcoming webinar, featuring lead report author, Nora Wang Esram, alongside a panel of experts, to discuss how we can build on the robust and ongoing efforts across industry, government, utilities, and standard-setting organizations to achieve a more holistic evaluation framework that supports state and local decision-makers in setting consistent data center development guardrails and incentivizing ambitious energy performance.
