Join us for an interactive workshop led by SCE, New Buildings Institute, NAESCO, and practitioners from the field. We’ll explore operational decarbonization, dispel myths, and showcase successful net-zero energy school projects. Gain insights, inspiration, and practical tools to accelerate progress toward your school’s net-zero goals. This half-day workshop offers current school district staff, practitioners, and supporters the opportunity to review and discuss specific tools to plan for decarbonization. Attendees will interact and learn from each other through conversation, engage in a series of hands-on activities to utilize the tools described in the session and identify funding pathways for implementation.

Reilly Loveland, Associate Director, New Buildings Institute

Reilly has been involved in school sustainable design, real estate development and financing, high performance and policy level energy efficiency market transformation throughout her career. At NBI, Reilly is responsible for the carbon neutral and high-performance buildings programs in school districts, states and at the federal level. She provides support for zero energy and carbon neutral market transformation by researching and developing school guidance tools; deep energy usage and carbon emissions data analysis; and educational outreach development, orchestration and implementation. Her superior analytical skills with close attention to detail lend themselves to a variety of utility analytics, energy benchmarking, strategic energy management, policy leadership and project management work, including compliance reporting processes for public agencies such as school districts and jurisdictions. She has worked with school districts, counties and several states to undertake road mapping processes to set buildings on a course for carbon neutral construction by mid-century.

Amy Discher, Sr. Advisor – Reach Codes, Southern California Edison

Amy has over 17 years of service at Southern California Edison (SCE), Currently, Amy spearheads the Reach Code efforts on SCE’s Codes and Standards team. She plays a crucial role in leading the development of various reach codes and building performance standards, driving the industry towards a more sustainable future. Previously, her role at SCE was as an Account Manager supporting the K-12 school districts as the single point of contact for all utility needs, including building and transportation electrification.

 

Timothy Unruh, Executive Director, National Association of Energy Service Companies

Dr. Timothy D. Unruh is the Executive Director of the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO), where he advocates for the energy service industry and oversees member accreditation. Previously, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Renewable Power at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), managing national renewable energy research and grid modernization initiatives. He also directed the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), driving energy efficiency and sustainability in federal operations. Dr. Unruh has held leadership roles at ConEdison Solutions and has extensive experience in energy project implementation, financing, and verification. A licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Energy Manager, he holds a doctorate, master’s, and bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Wichita State University.

Shannon Oliver, Senior Project Manager, New Buildings Institute

Shannon Oliver has a BS degree in Environmental Health from Colorado State University and a Master of Public Health degree in Global Environmental Health from Emory University. His professional experience includes seven years of air quality and environmental regulatory compliance for the oil and gas industry, and over seven years as the Manager of Energy & Sustainability at Adams 12 School District in north-Denver, Colorado. Shannon joined the New Buildings Institute team in 2023 as a Senior Project Manager with extensive experience in all aspects of operational and facility sustainability programs in a public institution. Specific projects have included energy performance contracting, net zero building design, greenhouse gas inventories, water conservation, and waste management and reduction. In his role at NBI Shannon has supported both the Energy CLASS and the Efficient and Healthy Schools Programs through training, school district engagement, and subject matter expertise. He is also the lead organizer of the student engagement portion of the MOVER project.
