Brendan Owens

Brendan is passionate about green buildings, market transformation, and programs that enable people and companies to decarbonize and create an equitable and healthy world. He is a co-founder and Chief of Innovation at ecountabl. There he oversees the vision, strategy, and continued development of ecountabl’s social and environmental values scoring system for consumers, which underpins the ecountabl technology platform that connects people with companies that share their values.

Brendan previously oversaw technical development and integration of rating systems at USGBC. In that role he collaborated with teams developing LEED, PEER and other rating systems and led the team that established the over-arching system goals for LEED v4. Brendan was a member of the integration committee that worked to align Standard 189.1, the IgCC and LEED. During his more than 18 years at USGBC, LEED grew to be one of the world’s most used environmental certification standard for commercial real estate, homes, utilities, and communities.

He is a board member of the New Buildings Institute, proud Boilermaker, licensed Professional Engineer, and was honored as a LEED Fellow in 2012.
