Our sights are set on 2030 – the year when all buildings are targeted to be carbon neutral. We are working to scale up what we’ve done since our founding in 1997: accelerate adoption of best practices in energy performance for the built environment. The building sector is responsible for roughly 40% of energy used in the United States and more than one-third of the carbon emissions. In U.S. cities, that number can rise as high as 75% of overall energy use. NBI’s work to transform how our buildings use and generate their own energy is critical at this moment.

Your contribution to NBI’s work funds work across our programs to:

  • ensure our national, state and local building codes move buildings into a climate-positive future
  • drive innovation and adoption of technology for carbon neutral buildings
  • educate architects, engineers, builders, owners, and others in the buildings sector how to deliver zero energy / carbon neutral buildings
