Maria Ellingson is the Getting to Zero Project Manager at New Buildings Institute. For over 20 years she has been improving energy efficiency in buildings through a variety of initiatives covering code development and adoption, education and training, as well as state-wide coalition building and marketing efforts. She is an effective communicator and collaborator for developing and implementing successful policies and programs. Maria comes to NBI from the Alliance to Save Energy and Building Codes Assistance Project, where she coordinated with state and local jurisdictions for successful code adoption, enforcement and compliance and helped lead a national coalition to advance America’s model building energy code. Her work on education and awareness campaigns about the benefits of energy efficiency earned her an Energy Pioneer Award from the U.S. Department of Energy and induction into the Built Green Hall of Fame at the Denver Home Builders Association.
