After semi-retiring from NBI, David consults with BluePoint Planning in Oakland, California on community energy and zero energy policy issues and with NEEP on strategic planning and building decarbonization. As part of the NEEP work, he recently developed and launched Building Decarb Central, a newsletter that covers actions to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon society. The newsletter is supported by a network of regional and national organizations.

David Hewitt has been leading market transformation efforts at the highest levels since 1992, with a focus on high performance and Zero Net Energy (ZNE) buildings since 2001. David served for nine years as the Executive Director of the New Buildings Institute, working on national building energy codes and ZNE buildings. The CPUC retained him as the lead consultant for commercial buildings ZNE activities beginning in 2009. He was heavily involved in the development of the ZNE Action Plan: Commercial Building Sector as a meeting planner, facilitator, and contributing author. He developed communication vehicles such as newsletters, web materials, and case studies, and worked closely with CPUC staff on critical issues.
